Enameling When It is 109 degrees

   Most everyone knows it is hot in Phoenix in June.  So why then would I choose to turn the kiln on
in the studio when it is suppose to be 109 degrees outside!  Good question.  You know how it is when

you have all these ideas floating through your head and you want to bring them to fruition, like right now!  Well that was how it started.  I first began my day at my favorite coffee shop in Historic Downtown Mesa, Inside the Bungalow.  With my coffee in hand I headed to the studio to begin my

day of enameling.  While waiting for my kiln to heat up to 1450 degrees (crazy I know) I prepared my enameling pieces.  After cutting and preparing the copper pieces, I am ready to sift the glass on

to the pieces.  Next they are popped into the kiln where they stay until the kiln heats back
up to 1450.  The temperature of the kiln drops dramatically when the door is opened.  When

they come out of the kiln the glass enamel has melted and adhered to the copper. These cute
flowers are part of an interchangeable ring we sell at  Twisted Sisters'Designs.  The
enamel components can be changed to other enamel colors (of which we have close to 100

colors) or you might want to choose a fine silver or copper piece to put on the ring.  Yes it
was a toasty day but quite successful.

Yes, we know it's been a loooong time since our last blog, but here we are now, catching up on a few things. First, we want to be sure you know we have holiday hours. We don't want to miss you so be sure to come to the gallery during the following times:

We have participated in two Festivals in the last two months and have been very pleased with the response to our creativity. How wonderful for us to have people come up to our table and say, "Oh, here are the Twisted Sisters. We've heard so much about you!" Yes, we enjoy our work and that feeling is transmitted through all our pieces. We will see what new ideas formulate in the new year. Until then, we wish you all a blessed and safe holiday season.

Many of you have met our lovely mannequin "Stella" (on the right). Stella has a new friend to accompany her in modeling our designs. Our dilemma is that her new friend desperately needs a name. We decided to hold a contest to name Stellla's new friend. We will be offering a $25 gift certificate to the customer that presents us with the name that we feel fits her look and personality. To enter the contest simply email your suggestion to Debra at primitivefolkart@aol.com. The deadline for the contest is September 30th, 2011. The winner will be notified via email. We look forward to seeing what creative names you suggest.

Temporarily closed for FUN!

Twisted Sisters' Designs will be closed August 1-15, 2011, reopening on Tuesday, August 16. We are very excited to be attending workshops to expand our knowledge and learn new techniques for creating original pieces. It is also a great time for us to interact with other creative minds and share knowledge and ideas with many different people.

We hope we have piqued your curiosity and that you will come by the studio/gallery and see what new designs we have available.

For those of you who already received our blog yesterday, humble apologies for sending it twice, but something got mixed up and it didn't go everywhere it was supposed to, so we tried again today--with much more success, we're happy to say.
